The Fiona Gardner Collection contains biographical research on some of the winners of the Miss Subways contest, including correspondence, photographs, newspaper clippings, and printed materials used for research. Also included are various documents concerning the development of the book, Meet Miss Subways, and three of the original car cards generated by the contest.

Series Description

Series 1 consists of photocopies of news articles, booklets, photographs, obituaries, and various other materials documenting contest winners, gathered by Gardner in the course of her research, as well as materials describing related contests like Miss Transit, the fictional Miss Turnstiles (featured in the Broadway play On The Town) and the more recent Ms. Subways contest convened by the New York Post in 2004.
