Long Island Rail Road

The Eugene Casey tunneling collection contains documents reflecting the history of tunneling in North America and around the world. Materials include documents describing tunneling methods and construction, early subway construction photographs, the building of the 63rd Street Tunnel, over 100 photographs documenting the Hudson & Manhattan Railroad Tube, and records relating to the construction of the Holland Tunnel, including signed reports by Clifford Milburn Holland.

Photographic prints showing trolleys in the New York metropolitan area, as operated by New York Railways and the Third Avenue Railway System in Manhattan and the Bronx, and various Brooklyn, Queens and Long Island trolleys lines, as well as slides and films of trolleys in other cities and countries, and related ephemera, including tickets, transfers, and publications.

The Long Island Rail Road early property records contains 18 binders of land maps and 3 binders of typed and hand-written real estate records documenting the development of the Long Island Rail Road, the property acquisitions and legal transactions of the Long Island Rail Road Company (and other early railroad companies in New York), and the landscape of property owners on Long Island in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

This collection contains documents, drawings, books and digital material pertaining to the Long Island Rail Road Real Estate Division. These materials pertain to capital projects or real estate as it pertains to the Long Island Rail Road.

Memoranda, reports, and bound publications concerning administrative, economic, sociological, and technical aspects of public transportation in the New York metropolitan region, collected or created by Peter Derrick during the course of his employment at the New York State Senate and MTA, and deriving from his ongoing work as a transportation planning author, educator, and scholar.
